SARAH AYERS
DIRECTOR
Before joining Signal Return, Sarah worked in public programming atthe Detroit Institute of Arts, was director of Zabriskie Gallery in New York City and worked as a curatorial fellow for Bard Graduate Center, among other organizations. Sarah has a master’s degree in art history and a bachelor of science in the business of art & design. She is currently a doctoral candidate at the Transart Institute/Liverpool John Moores University.

JOEL GROTHAUS
STUDIO MANAGER
Joel grew up in the Detroit area where he attended College for Creative Studies and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration. He has enjoyed working alongside and training many talents in the Signal-Return studio while making print work, maintaining presses, leading workshops, and documenting all of the above with his camera for the @signalreturn Instagram account. When he is not at Signal Return, he maintains an independent painting and illustration practice.

Elaisha Hilliard
STUDIO ASSISTANT
Elaisha Hilliard is proudly rooted in her hometown of Detroit and remains an active and engaged member of her community. She is a self taught printmaker and painter. With the help of her colleagues amongst the Signal Return team, Elaisha is immersing herself in the intricacies of letterpress printing, eagerly absorbing new skills and techniques. When she is not at Signal Return, she maintains her own studio practice, where she continues to explore and create.

Lauren Hurst
STORE ASSOCIATE
Lauren moved to the Midwest from Southern California to attend the University of Michigan where she first gained an interest in printmaking. Motivated by creativity and thoughtful messaging, she believes in fostering meaningful, sustainable communities through support of the arts, music, and social well-being. Lauren is constantly inspired by the people and projects that come through the doors at Signal-Return. An avid Detroit sports fan, she also enjoys playing music and caring for the plants that adorn Signal-Return’s shop and studio spaces.

TAYLOR JENKINS
STORE MANAGER
Taylor is originally from Dallas, Texas. She made her move to Michigan to attend the University of Michigan and she is here to stay. She recently graduated from the Penny W. Stamps School of Art and Design where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts. She is passionate about her art practice and building community with other artists. Taylor is an interdisciplinary artist and when she is not at Signal Return she enjoys weaving, sewing, and natural dyeing.

KEVIN SHUREB
STUDIO COORDINATOR
Kevin works as a studio coordinator and store employee at Signal-Return. He started his journey at our print shop as an intern while attending College for Creative Studies where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. He enjoys working with our staff and clients while expanding his typographic and printmaking knowledge. When he is not printing at Signal Return, he is creating various projects ranging from painting to self published ‘zines. In addition to his creative endeavors, Kevin has been skateboarding for fifteen years and remains active in the Detroit skateboard community.
